Wagner Group rebellion in June is part of Russia’s special operation – Senior Ukrainian official claims

Kyiv/Moscow – A senior Ukrainian official has claimed that Russia’s private military company Wagner Group’s rebellion in June was part of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special operation. Besides, Ukraine and the Western countries had said that the Wagner Group revolt was an incident to hollow out President Putin and the Russian regime. However, a discussion is gaining momentum now that Putin may have created this rebellion.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), has claimed, ‘Today we can already say that it was a special operation coordinated with Putin to expose those generals who were not entirely loyal to Putin and his entourage.’ However, he also predicted that a leader in Russia might come forward against Putin in the near future.
On June 24, information had come to the fore that the Russian private military company Wagner Group had rebelled and captured two Russian cities. In addition, there were claims that the Wagner Group forces had reached just 200 km away from the Russian capital Moscow. Russian President Putin had termed Prigozhin’s actions treason and warned of severe punishment for those who participated in the rebellion. In response, Prigozhin claimed that their activity was not a rebellion but a ‘march for justice’.

A few hours after this incident, which created a sensation in Russia and around the world, there were reports that the rebellion of the Wagner Group had ended. Also, the deal between the Wagner Group and the Russian government was said to have been negotiated with the mediation of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. However, a few days ago, President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Prigozhin had not reached Belarus and was in Russia. Russian media also reported raids at the Wagner Group office and Prigozhin’s residence.
After this, the Russian President also confirmed the meeting of the head of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin and the chief commander at the end of June. In an interview, Putin revealed that he had presented a proposal to them to work as a unit in Ukraine.
