US withdraws certain sanctions against Iran to pursue nuclear deal talks

Washington/Tehran – The Biden administration in the United States has withdrawn certain sanctions imposed on the Iranian nuclear program. The Biden administration said that this step was taken to pursue the talks in Vienna. But the senators from Biden’s Democrat party themselves are raising questions over the decision.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed the documents to withdraw certain sanctions imposed on the Iranian nuclear program. The US delegation left for Vienna in a hurry. Therefore, the Biden administration expects that the talks on the nuclear deal, prolonged over the last few months, will once again be back on track.

The Biden administration claimed that if the nuclear deal is revived, it will stop Iran from producing a nuclear bomb. But certain officials from the Biden administration and some senior senators from the ruling Democrat party are against withdrawing sanctions and even the talks being held with Iran at Vienna. The Israeli agencies had already warned that Iran, participating in the talks at Vienna with the United States and European countries, would produce a nuclear bomb in a year. Senior US officials are also unhappy with the Biden administration’s stand. Senior US Senator Robert Menendez of Biden’s own Democrat party has raised questions over the negotiations being held with Iran. Menendez had said, ‘At this point, we seriously have to ask what exactly are we trying to salvage?’ Menendez has questioned the Biden administration to understand what strong demands we have made for the nuclear deal. At the same time, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has asserted that there will be no compromise on the ballistic missile program and the support for the terrorist organisations in the region. Can a nuclear deal be signed with Iran despite all this?’

Since the last year, Iran has increased the speed of its nuclear program under the veil of the negotiations. Moreover, criticism is rife in the United States that despite such developments, the Biden administration is giving Iran freedom by reviving the nuclear deal signed during the Obama administration in 2015. Former President Donald Trump had pressured Iran to impose harsh sanctions. There is a criticism in the US media that the decisions of the Biden administration are assisting Iran to carry on with its nuclear program. But the Biden administration is trying to create a façade that its policies regarding the Gulf sector are balanced by supplying weapons to Saudi, UAE and Jordan while negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran at the same time.
