Rapid military withdrawal from Afghanistan ensured safety of the US soldiers: US President Joe Biden

Washington: – US President Joe Biden justified his decision of rapid military withdrawal from Afghanistan, saying that ‘speed is safety,’ meaning that the immediate US military withdrawal ensures the safety of the US soldiers. Accusations are being made that the United States is hurrying up the military withdrawal from Afghanistan, and serious effects are apparent. The Taliban has started a spate of acquiring the Afghan land, and it is being accused that the rapid US military withdrawal is contributing to the Taliban success. Against this background, Biden made this announcement regarding the US military withdrawal.

While answering the questions regarding the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan, Biden reminded that over the last 20 years, trillions of dollars had been spent on the Afghan war, and 2,448 US soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan. He claimed that the future US generations could not be held at ransom for the Afghan war. The United States did not start the war to build Afghanistan. The Afghan war was started to send Osama Bin Laden to the doors of hell and dismantle Al-Qaeda’s capacity to attack the United States. Biden claimed that both objectives had been achieved.

Despite all this, it cannot be said that the Afghan campaign is completed and its mission has been accomplished. The terrorist organisations in this country will not be allowed to acquire the capability to attack the United States. To ensure these interests, the presence of the US military and the intelligence department will be maintained in Afghanistan. Biden also assured that the aid provided to the Afghan army would continue even in the future.

Taliban has strengthened its hold. Yet, 75,000 Taliban terrorists will not be able to face the 300,000 strong trained and equipped Afghan military. Therefore, despite the US withdrawal, entire Afghanistan will not go under Taliban control. Biden claimed that he believed in the capability of the Afghanistan military rather than the Taliban.

Saying that no country in the world has been able to keep Afghanistan united, Biden advised that the Afghan leaders and government will have to unite for this. At the same time, saying that it is doubtful to have a unified government in Afghanistan, Biden indicated that there would be two or more parallel governments in Afghanistan. Therefore, there are indications that the country will be divided into Ashraf Ghani’s government in Kabul and the Taliban government in the parts under Taliban control. President Biden seems to have endorsed this, saying that the Taliban will not take control over the entire country.

Biden said that it would be unfair to compare this US military withdrawal from Afghanistan with the defeat in Vietnam in 1975. Biden clarified that there is a vast difference between the communist soldiers in Vietnam and the Taliban. Biden also pointed out that the United States did not have to land a helicopter in the embassy to evacuate its personnel to complete the withdrawal.
