US and European countries upset with Iran's proposal for nuclear dealLast month, representatives of the US and Iran held an emergency meeting in Vienna. After the meeting, which the European Union mediated, Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, suggested that the United States and Iran communicate their decision regarding the nuclear agreement. However, Borrell warned that the US and Iran should not impose any new demands. After this, it is claimed that the nuclear deal between the US and Iran has reached its final stage. The US media had claimed that the nuclear deal was just a few days away.

In this situation, Iran submitted its proposal for a nuclear deal to the Union two days ago. Iran’s proposal to revive the 2015 nuclear deal has not been made public. But the US news agency, quoting officials from the Biden administration, claimed that the US and the European Union were unhappy with Iran’s proposal. The US official criticised Iran’s proposal as it was leading to the withdrawal of the nuclear deal. The US media said that the officials of the European Union are also stating that Iran’s proposal seems to be negative.

The Prime Minister of Israel had already commented that the nuclear deal the US is doing with Iran is very ‘bad’. Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries led by Saudi Arabia have also opposed the deal. Under such circumstances, the Biden administration cannot afford to make more concessions to Iran regarding the nuclear deal. Meanwhile, the US opposition party leaders are criticising the Biden administration for being lenient towards Iran. On the other hand, the Biden administration, eager for the Iran nuclear deal, is imposing new terms and conditions.

The Biden administration wants a nuclear deal with Iran as soon as possible to keep fuel prices under control due to the war in Ukraine. But while the Biden administration is in a hurry, there are indications that Iran will quietly concede to its demands and only then move towards a nuclear deal. This has put the Biden administration in a dilemma, and the European countries mediating the nuclear deal are also in trouble. Whether these disagreements on the nuclear deal are limited to stiffening the negotiations or whether they actually threaten the nuclear deal will only be revealed in the coming days. However, even if this nuclear agreement is reached or the talks on it fail, it has become clear that it will not have a major impact on the entire Gulf region.
