US and Iran to start fresh talks on nuclear deal in Qatar

Tehran/Doha: The United States and Iran are again initiating dialogue on the nuclear deal, as the last discussion in Vienna failed. The proposed discussion will begin on Tuesday with the mediation of the European Union through proxy. As many would suggest, this could be the last chance to save the 2015 nuclear deal between the United States and Iran. Meanwhile, being aggravated, Israel is criticizing the European Union for leading the mediation for the nuclear deal.

US and Iran to start fresh talks on nuclear deal in QatarLast year, Joe Biden started the negotiations with Iran to revive the 2015 nuclear deal after taking over as the President of the United States. The negotiations started in Vienna in April 2021 and continued till March 2022. There were reports of negotiations reaching a positive conclusion. The US officials claimed that the Biden administration had accepted the Iranian demands. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had claimed that the nuclear deal was in the final stages of approval. However, the media claimed that the negotiations had to be halted in the final stage due to bitter opposition from Israel. Some officials from the European Union also claimed that the Vienna negotiations failed because of Israel’s opposition.

Josep Borrell, chief of foreign policy at the European Union, visited Iran last week and held meetings with the Iranian leadership. After that, it was announced that fresh negotiations would be held regarding the nuclear deal. Media in the US, Europe and Qatar reported that fresh talks would start to revive the 2015 nuclear deal. The United States and Iran have confirmed the report. Ali Bagheri, representing Iran, has left for Qatar, whereas Robert Malley, Special Envoy from the US, will reach Qatar shortly.

Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has criticized Josep Borrell for his visit to Iran. Foreign Minister Lapid accused Borrell of initiating the nuclear deal, which depicts a lack of any value for the lives of the Israeli people. Lapid criticized that the western countries are delivering a very wrong message to Iran. Israel has already announced that it will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear bomb under any circumstances. Israel has also warned that military action is always a possibility if needed.
