In 1988, the prevailing Iran Supremo, Ayatollah Khomeini, ordered the mass killing of thousands. At the time, Raisi was functioning as a Judge in capital Tehran. He seems to have ordered the murders of many at the time. Besides, the ‘mass graves’ of those victims have been accused of being destroyed after the UN Investigator demanded a probe. The United Nations official said that this kind of investigation is in the best interest of Iran. In the interview, Rehman said that his office contacted Iran. Moreover, his campaign on this matter would continue hereafter as well.

However, President-elect Raisi supported the incident that happened in 1988. He said that he must be thanked for the decision he took as a judge for the security of civilians. As per the reports by several human rights organisations, over 5000 were killed in the 1988 incident.
