Ukraine stepping forward to speak to Russia despite being aware of the situation appears a significant development. Indications are that the talks will be held through the Minsk group, which has Ukraine and other European countries. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba said that the Russian military deployment on the Ukraine border would be questioned during the talks.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reached Ukraine for a visit on Monday. He met Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital Kyiv. He expressed hope that Russia would make serious efforts to defuse the tension with Ukraine. At the same time, the German Chancellor also assured that Germany and the other western countries were willing to open a dialogue with Russia on the issue of European security.

Vadym Prystaiko, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, created a sensation with his statement that Ukraine can consider not joining NATO to defuse the current tension.
