Taliban should not make Afghanistan a 'terror haven', warns OIC

Dubai – The Taliban has assured that it will not allow Afghan land to be used for terrorist activities against another country. But Pakistan and Pakistan-backed militant groups have been overwhelmed by the Taliban’s victory in Afghanistan. The leaders of these terrorist organizations are showering good wishes on the Taliban. Terrorist and extremist groups in Islamic countries have also come to view the Taliban as a role model. In such a scenario, the OIC called on the Taliban not to allow Afghanistan to become a centre of global terrorism.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an organization of 57 Islamic countries. Saudi Arabia convened a special meeting of the organization on Sunday. The meeting expressed concern over the situation in Afghanistan. At the same time, the OIC has told the Taliban that terrorist groups will not be allowed to re-establish in Afghanistan. The OIC’s warning is unlikely to have much effect on the Taliban. However, the group’s warning appears to be a sign of distrust of the Taliban. This could be a major problem for the Taliban in the future.

In 1996, with the help of the United States, the Taliban forced Soviet Russia to withdraw and established its rule in Afghanistan. At the time, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan had recognized the Taliban regime. But now, there have been major changes in the policies of Saudi and UAE. These countries are at risk from terrorists. In such a scenario, a warning issued to the Taliban by Saudi Arabia and UAE controlled OIC on terrorism becomes significant.
