Strong protests in Turkey against China over atrocities against UyghursTwo days ago, the Uyghurs who took refuge in Turkey organized protests against China outside the world-famous shrine in Istanbul. These Uyghurs declared at this time that they would not give up our claim on East Turkestan. At the same time, Muslims in Turkey were called upon to support the protests against the atrocities committed by the Communist regime of China in East Turkestan, i.e the Xinjiang province.

Moreover, Mahmut Kar, head of the radical organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir in Turkey, was present at these demonstrations. Mahmut warned Turkey’s Erdogan government; he questioned, ‘Will you ignore the persecution of Muslims in China for the sake of economic deals? Will you deny the rights of Uyghurs for cheap loans? The Uyghurs are looking expectantly up to you.’ Furthermore, Mahmut accused China of genocide by starvation in Xinjiang using the Coronavirus pandemic. The raising of the Uyghurs issue by hardliners in Turkey could add to the difficulties faced by the Erdogan government.
