Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol warned, ‘ If the [North Korean nuclear] problem becomes more serious, the Republic of Korea may deploy tactical nuclear weapons or come to possess its own nuclear weapons.’ South Korea claimed to have accepted this aggression after North Korean threats of nuclear attacks increased. Last week, South Korea’s President announced that talks with the United States about the deployment of nuclear weapons were underway.

Last month, North Korea threatened the US, Japan and South Korea with nuclear attacks. Also, North Korea had alleged that the war exercises between the US and South Korea were preparations for an attack on it. North Korea had threatened that if the war exercises continued in the times to come, it would be considered a threat to the security of North Korea and action against it would be taken its way.

North Korea has claimed to have conducted more than 80 missile tests in the past year, citing war exercises between the US and South Korea. At the same time, the US, South Korea and Japan have been publicly threatened twice for the attack. Besides, North Korea had announced for the first time that it would change its nuclear policy and adopts a ‘first strike policy’. Citing these threats from North Korea, South Korean President Yeol made an important announcement about nuclear weapons production.

Moreover, President Yeol claimed that if North Korea does not stop its threats of nuclear attacks, South Korea will also not delay in getting ready with nuclear weapons. President Yeol explained in the cabinet meeting that with the help of South Korea’s advanced science and technology, their country would be equipped with nuclear weapons very quickly. Hence, South Korea seems to be more serious about nuclear weapons.
