Saudi Prince asks for overthrowing Iranian regime

Paris (News Agency) : Saudi prince, Turki bin Faisal while attending ‘Free Iran’ congregation held in Paris recently stated, “Three decades ago, the people of Iran were the first to fall victims to the Islamic Revolution under the rule of Ayatollah Khomeini. Presently the people of Iran want to overthrow the government and I also want that.” Iran government has expressed resentment to the Prince’s statement. Foreign Ministry of Iran has shot back stating “Such remarks from the Saudi prince has exposed Saudi’s support to the terrorists who are against Iran”

The Free Iran congregation had been organized by the Mojahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) for many years with an agenda of protesting against the Iranian government. Leaders from many countries were present during the congregation held in Paris on Saturday. But the presence and the speech of the ex-Intelligence chief and the influential Prince of Saudi Arabia has drawn attention of the media. Saudi prince, Turki bin Faisal mentioned “there is a history of the friendship between Iran and the Arab nations. There has never been any history of any noted aggression between Iranians and Arabs. There has always been a co-operation between the two.”

Saudi prince, Turki bin Faisal commented that the present Iran government is an exception and its policies is creating tensions in Middle East. Prince, Turki bin Faisal accused the Iran government of interference in Arab states and underlined it as the main reason for the prevailing tensions.

Prince Turki made inflammatory statements like “Khomeini, who brought about the Islamic Revolution in Iran three decades ago, and ruled over it was like a cancer to Iran”. He further declared that the entire Gulf and he were in support of Mariam Razavi who started the protest against this “cancer” in Iran. The supporters of MEK who were present wholeheartedly welcomed this declaration. All those present responded by giving a standing ovation to Prince Turki for his speech against the Iran Government. There were shouts of “The people of Iran want to bring down the government”. To which the Prince Turki al-Faisal also shouted “I also want that”.

The TV channels in Saudi Arabia and UAE presented live telecast of the Congregation in Paris. Middle East media covered the news and the speech of Prince Turki that sought much attention and discussions.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iran has responded with furious reaction. Amir Abdollahian, advisor to Iran’s foreign ministry stated, “There were always suspicions about the connection of the Saudi intelligence and the MEK. However today’s speech has exposed Saudi’s policy of co-operating with terrorists to fight Iran Government”. Those present during the congregation in Paris included former US Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, former Mayor of New York State, Rudy Giuliani, former Congress President, Newt Gingrich, former Foreign Minister of France, Bernard Kouchner, former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Luis Zapatero and prominent leaders from Afro-Arabic countries.
