St. Petersburg: After meeting with UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Russian President Putin said that despite all the difficulties in international relations today, ties between Russia and the UAE are an important factor of stability in the region and the entire world. President Putin stated that the decision of OPEC Plus is not against any country.

A video gone viral of President Putin offering his jacket to Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan as he started to feel cold during the meeting. It is claimed to have signified the warmth of relations between the two leaders.

After the meeting with Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President Putin addressed the media and emphasised the importance of strategic ties between the two countries. President Putin welcomed the decision of the UAE to reduce oil production. President Putin responded to criticism from the West and the US by stating that OPEC Plus has decided to provide stability to global oil markets and does not intend to be against any country.

The West severely criticised the decision of OPEC Plus to cut oil production. It was claimed that this would push the fuel prices close to $110 per barrel. The United States, which strongly opposes this decision, has signalled a reduction in military assistance to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. In such circumstances, the visit of the UAE head of state to Russia was claimed to be highly significant. The Russian President seems to have conveyed to the West that cooperation with the UAE is essential for global stability.
