Accusing that Russia has started the war against Ukraine, Turkey has begun preparations to implement the Montreux Convention. Although there is no direct mention, the US media claimed that Turkey has opened a front against Russia, using the convention.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused that the Russian action against Ukraine is nothing but war while speaking to a US news channel. Cavusoglu claimed that regional security has been threatened due to the Russian action and announced the use of rights awarded by the United Nations. The Turkish Foreign Minister had announced that the Russian destroyers would be cornered in the Black Sea region by closing the strait of Bosporus. Cavusoglu reminded that the United Nations had awarded these rights to Turkey as per the Montreux Convention of 1936.

Cavusoglu warned while speaking to the Turkish government news agency, ‘There have been no inquiries made with Turkey to use the Black Sea region, until now. But subsequently, navies of no countries should sail through this marine region.’ The Turkish Foreign Minister did not mention Russia or Ukraine. But still, the US media are claiming that this is a warning to the Russian navy using the Black Sea region through the Strait of Bosporus,

There are six destroyers and a submarine of the Russian navy deployed in the Black Sea sector. It is claimed that as per the Montreux Convention, these destroyers cannot leave the Black Sea sector without Turkey’s permission. It would directly impact the conflict going on between Russia and Ukraine. Just a few hours ago, European countries stopped the access of their airspaces to Russian airplanes. Analysts from Turkey and Europe have claimed that Turkey has prevented the Russian navy from using the Black Sea sector on similar lines.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister is claiming that the closure of the Black Sea region will not affect the friendly relations shared by Turkey with Ukraine or Russia. But the talks have started in the Gulf media that Turkey has invited Russian displeasure by cornering the Russian warships.
