Russia may face anarchy and instability, warns former advisor to President Putin

Moscow: – Vladislav Surkov, the former adviser to President Vladimir Putin, has warned that Russia could be in a state of anarchy and instability in the near future, claiming that anarchy continues to grow in a closed regime. The threat of instability in Russia is growing and cannot be stopped, but the country should not move towards liberal experiments. He also warned that that could only lead to failure. Surkov served as a close associate and adviser to Vladimir Putin for two decades, from 1999 to 2020. Therefore, his statements become noteworthy.

In an article on a Russian website called ‘Actual Comment’, Surkov commented on the situation in Russia. He has cited the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which points out that it is a universal rule that disorder is always growing in the world. Surkov said that the country needs to have a robust regime for containing this discontent to be compared to social discontent. He then reached Russia of the last decade and the first two decades of the new century.

Russia was in a state of social anarchy in 1990 and the time after that. But the country, which was suffering from constant trauma, was pulled out from under the rubble of restructuring. Since then, in the first two decades of the 21st century, Russia has maintained stability. The next two decades will be a golden age for Russia, said Vladislav Surkov, a former adviser to Putin. But he warned that soon, Russia could counter anarchy. Surkov warned that Russia would create this anarchy given the failure to meet the people’s aspirations. ‘But Russia should not try to make its political system more open to addressing growing public discontent. It is feared that the anger and resentment among the people will spill out uncontrollably, and no measures can be taken against the instability created by it, warned Vladislav Surkov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been leading the country since 1999. Initially, Putin was seen as a strong leader in stabilizing the Russian economy. However, his popularity has been declining in recent years and he has been accused of crushing opposition to extend his grip on power. Earlier this year, a series of violent protests were staged in Russia, against Putin, over his alleged role in the action against Alexei Navalny.

Although Putin’s party could win the polls held a few months ago, its vote share has plummeted. Another survey has also claimed that Putin’s popularity among Russia’s youth has declined. In this context, the warning given by an adviser, who has worked with Putin for two decades, becomes significant.
