Police seize 7,000 detonators in Kerala – a major attack averted

Kochi: – 7,000 detonators and 7,500 gelatine sticks were seized in the joint action taken by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) and Walayar Police. Indications are that the terrorists are plotting some major attacks in the state because of the seizure. Police have arrested two people in this connection, and they are thoroughly interrogated. Only a few days ago, Siddiq Ul Aslim, the chief of the Kerala unit of IS, had been arrested.

The DANSAF received information that detonators and gelatine sticks were being transported in a truck carrying tomatoes from Salem to Angamaly. Accordingly, the officials laid a trap and seized a huge haul of 7,000 detonators and 7,500 gelatine sticks at Walayar. This haul was hidden in 34 boxes in the truck.

The DANSAF officers arrested two people at this time. Ravi and Prabhu are the names of the people transporting these explosives. Ravi is from Ammapet in Dharmapuri district, and Prabhu is from Kottavur from the Thiruvannamalai district. The police are interrogating both of them, and further investigation is on.

Information that terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda and IS becoming active in Kerala had been exposed by the intelligence and investigation agencies. The investigation agencies have detained many suspected terrorists and their supporters from Kerala. Against this background, the seizure of this huge haul becomes a significant development.
