India-Nepal dispute can be resolved through talks: Nepal PM

New Delhi/Kathmandu: The tone of Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, changed following the visit of the Indian Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Mukund Narawane. On Friday, Army Chief Naravane held talks with the Nepalese Prime Minister. Nepalese Prime Minister expressed confidence that relations between India and Nepal are long-standing and special. India is a very close friend of Nepal and both the countries can resolve bilateral disputes, through talks and negotiations. Nepal had dug-up a dispute with the publication of the new political map. This is the first bilateral high-level meeting, since then.

Nepal PM confident that dialogue can resolve India-Nepal disputesSince the last few months, India-Nepal relations had been strained. Nepal published a new political map claiming Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura as Nepalese territories. While objecting to the map, India lambasted that if Nepal wishes to talk on the subject, it will be the responsibility of Nepal to create a conducive atmosphere. But even after that, Nepal took certain decisions detrimental to Indian interests. The analysts said that the Nepal government is taking these actions were a result of the Chinese influence. But after it was exposed that China has grabbed Nepalese land, Nepal has taken a few decisions indicating the intent to normalise relations with India.

Against this background, Nepal decided to confer Honorary General Rank, onto Indian Chief of Army Staff, General MM Naravane. Indian Army Chief General Naravane met senior officials, along with the Nepalese Army Chief and held discussions. Whereas, on Friday, General Naravane held talks with Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. At this time, the Nepalese Prime Minister referred to the long-standing relations between India and Nepal and said that the two countries are good friends. He expressed confidence that the disputes between the two countries can be resolved through talks. As per analysts, the secretary-level talks can be resumed following this Nepal visit of Army Chief General Naravane.
