Junta regime in Myanmar declares National Unity Government as a terrorist organisation

Naypyidaw: – The Myanmar military, who overthrew the elected government, has declared the National Unity Government, formed against the Junta regime, as a terrorist organisation. This announcement was made saying that the National Unity Government is responsible for all the bomb blasts, arson and killings around the country. Analysts criticised that this is a new step taken by the Junta regime to crush the agitation against it.

The Myanmar military took over power in February, overthrowing the elected government through a coup. The population of Myanmar took to the streets to agitate against this action of the Myanmar military. The people did not retreat despite the cruel efforts and terrible atrocities of the Myanmar military. The agitation is continuing with the same vigour, and the extent is seen to be increasing.

Only last month, leaders from the democratic government and the ethnic and rebel groups formed the coalition, National Unity Government. It was announced that the National Unity Government would operate as a parallel system to the Junta regime. Many organisations and groups in Myanmar welcomed and declared their support for the National Unity Government. These also include specific rebel organisations fighting with the Myanmar military for the last so many decades.

Based on this increasing support, the National Unity Government announced the formation of the People’s Defence Force. It was indicated that this force would directly engage the Myanmar military in an armed conflict. This has made the Junta regime very restless, and an announcement that the National Unity Government is a terrorist organisation is a part of the same sentiment. Analysts claimed that after declaring the National Unity Government as a terrorist organisation, harsher actions would be implemented more aggressively to crush the agitation.

While the Junta regime is searching for new avenues to crush the agitation, it has been observed that the rebel organisations have become more active against the Myanmar military. It is claimed that the rebels attacked a police post and took control over it, in the Chin state, on Saturday. The Chinland Defence Force said that the 15 soldiers deployed at the post fled, and the post was set on fire.
