A massive agitation has started in Myanmar, demanding that the military give up power acquired with force through a coup and hand it over to the democratic government. The protest is receiving massive support from every corner of the country, and rebel organisations and religious groups also have jumped into the fray. The military is infuriated with the agitation support, and it is making its action more intense by the day to create an atmosphere of terror and fear among the agitators and the general population.

Last week, 200 people were killed in the actions taken by the Myanmar military. Nearly 3,000 people have been arrested, and these include political activists along with reporters. Despite these intense actions by the army, the pro-democracy agitation receives massive support from the Myanmar population, and hundreds of thousands of citizens are taking to the roads to protest daily. The people coming on the streets are being threatened, and indiscriminate firing incidents being carried out in the civilian settlements have also been reported.

Following the agitators, the Myanmar military has also started targeting various ethnic groups and organisations. The Myanmar military has initiated fierce airstrikes in the Karen province near the Thailand border. Different villages are being targeted since the last week and houses, schools and roads are being destroyed. This has forced at least 12,000 people from the region to migrate. Against this background, the local groups have demanded that the international community stop selling weapons to the Myanmar military.

Meanwhile, last week, four leading rebel organisations from Myanmar declared support for the pro-democracy agitation. Ten armed groups in the country also announced their support to the agitation on Sunday, demanding that the constitution prepared by the military should be cancelled. Concerns are being expressed that the violence will flare up further in Myanmar because of the increasing support being received from the armed groups to the agitation.
