Israel refuses to support anti-Russia resolution at UN despite US request

Jerusalem: – The Biden administration had requested Israel to support the resolution presented in the UN Security Council against Russia. But Israel rejected the request of the Biden administration by avoiding supporting the resolution against Russia. It is claimed that along with Israel, even the Arab countries turned their backs on the United States by refusing to take a stand against Russia. This is a significant jolt for the Biden administration.

Moreover, the United States has imposed sanctions on Russia given the Ukraine conflict. But the Biden administration has realised that these sanctions will not affect Russia. Against this background, the Biden administration is vying to garner support from allied and partner countries to corner Russia. The Biden administration has claimed to have contacted 81 counties and prepared them to support the US front against Russia.

The Biden administration had contacted the Israeli Ambassador to the United States. The administration had demanded Israel’s support to the resolution against Russia, moved by the United States and the western countries. But Israel has refrained from taking a stand in the matter. While talking to the media, some Israeli officials said that the Naftali Bennett government in Israel had decided upon it. Israel Foreign Minister Yair Lapid had recently criticised the Russian action in Ukraine. But the local media have claimed that not taking a stand against Russia in important places like the United Nations is a part of the Israeli policy. This Israeli stand has given a significant jolt to the United States, depending on its allies to support the resolution moved in the UN Security Council against Russia. The United States demanded that Israel supply air defence systems to Ukraine to counter the Russian airstrikes. But Israel has turned its back even on this US demand.

Furthermore, international analysts have pointed out that even the Arab countries are not a part of the US front against Russia, just like Israel. Three countries abstained from voting when the resolution was moved against Russia in the UN Security Council. Analysts have pointed out that UAE is the third country to abstain from voting alongside India and China.

A few days ago, the United States connected Saudi Arabia requesting to increase natural gas production for European countries. But Saudi Arabia refused to respond to the Biden administration, who has consistently adopted a pro-Iran stand. Qatar, which has been declared a partner country of NATO, also avoided taking a stance against Russia. It is a matter raising questions on the credibility of the Biden administration.
