Jerusalem: The Biden administration should not criticise Saudi Arabia and Egypt on human rights issues. Israel has warned that Saudi Arabia and Egypt will join the group of Iran, China and Russia against the United States. An Israeli daily quoted government officials saying that President Biden’s irresponsible withdrawal from Afghanistan has raised concerns that the United States has lost the trust of its allies around the world. In this scenario, the Israeli warning issued to the Biden administration becomes important.

After taking office seven months ago, President Biden made it clear that he would focus on human rights in foreign policy. Biden had openly avoided mentioning Saudi Arabia and Egypt. But Biden said allies and partners needed to improve their system with respect to human rights if relations with the United States were to be maintained. The United States has also suspended military aid to Saudi Arabia over this issue.

The Israeli daily claimed that Israel had expressed concern over the US stand. If the United States targets Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, both leaders will walk away from the United States. If that happens, Saudi Arabia and Egypt will join the group against the US, along with Iran, China and Russia. Israel warned the Biden administration that these developments would be “very dangerous” for the interests of the United States and Israel. Israeli officials provided the information on the condition of anonymity.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett visited the United States a week ago. It is unknown, at this time, whether Prime Minister Bennett raised this issue with President Biden. But, according to the Israeli daily, the Bennett government has already informed the Biden administration of its position on Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Neither the United States nor Israel has commented on the matter on an official level.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration’s decision to continue negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran is unacceptable to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt. Under such circumstances, if the Biden administration hurts Saudi Arabia and Egypt over human rights issues, both countries will go against the United States. For this, Israel is pointing out that both Arab nations will join the group of China and Russia.

Opposition leaders have criticised the Biden administration for unnecessarily putting human rights issues ahead of its allies and partners. At the same time, the Biden administration is ignoring the actions of countries like China and Iran that are trampling human rights. The Republican leaders have made a scathing criticism that this fact clearly shows the contradiction in the policies of the Biden administration.
