Iran-Afghanistan border closed following tension 

Tehran/Kabul: – The Iran-Afghanistan border was closed for some time following an encounter between the Iranian and Afghan soldiers. Iran has accused the Taliban of illegally building roads in the Iranian territory. After that, Afghanistan closed the main border connected to the Herat province. Taliban has started this construction in the Islam Qala District in the western region of Herat.

Iran-Afghanistan borderHassan Kazemi Qomi, the Iranian special envoy for Afghanistan, accused that the construction started by the Taliban is violating the international border of Iran. Whereas Moulavi Humayu Hemat, local commander of the Taliban, levelled a counter-accusation against Iran. The Taliban commander accused that the Iranian border security soldiers intruded into Afghan land. Reports of the Taliban detaining the Iranian soldiers also had been received. Tension was created in the region after this.

This is the second time that tension has been created on the Iran-Afghan border since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan last August. Moreover, the rift between Iran and Taliban governments has been widening since the previous month. It is claimed that the Afghans who took shelter in Iran, fearing the Taliban, are being armed by the Revolutionary Guards for action against the Taliban. Reports of Iran torturing Afghan refugees also have been received. A few days ago, angry demonstrations were held in front of the Iranian embassy in Afghanistan.
