India has evidence social media platforms are being used to raise terror funds – NIA chief claims

New Delhi: “Social media platforms are used to fund terrorists. India has evidence of this,” said Dinkar Gupta, Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The ‘No Money for Terror’ conference begins in New Delhi on Friday. The meeting will be attended by 73 countries worldwide and will see the participation of ministers from 20 countries. Possible threats from terrorism and financial sources of terrorists will be the subject of discussion at this conference. Therefore, the importance of this claim made by the NIA’s Director General while speaking at a press conference held before this conference has increased even more.

India has evidence social media platforms are being used to raise terror funds - NIA chief claims‘No Money for Terror’ was organised in Paris, France, in 2018 and 2019 in Melbourne, Australia. The third conference is being held in New Delhi, and Prime Minister Modi will address the conference. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will attend the conference. Dinkar Gupta informed that there would be representatives from about 73 countries at the said conference, and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and Interpol will also participate in it. However, Gupta added that Pakistan and Afghanistan would not participate in the conference. Gupta made it clear that China has not yet given any information about its participation in the conference.

The money provided to terrorists is a very serious issue. Hawala racket and social media platforms are also being used for this. Crowdfunding is done for terrorists, and social media is used for the same. The NIA chief said that India has evidence to prove it. All these things will be discussed at length at the No Money for Terror conference. Gupta added that participating countries could express their views freely in the four sessions organised in this conference.

Meanwhile, just a few days ago, INTERPOL General Assembly and United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee meeting was held in India. After this, No Money for Terror is being organised in New Delhi. It shows that the aggressive stand adopted by India against terrorism is getting a response from the international level. The repercussions of this are beginning to emerge. It is putting pressure on Pakistan, a sponsor of terrorism, and it has also upset China, which has been defending the leaders of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist organisations at the UN Security Council. It could be because China has not informed India about its decision to participate in the said conference.
