India-Australia can clinch free trade agreement

New Delhi – Former Australian PM Tony Abbott has asserted that India and Australia would soon conclude the free trade agreement. Thus, this will provide an impetus to the economic cooperation between both the countries, said Abbott. China has initiated a trade war against Australia. In such a situation, Australia is looking upon India as a trustworthy trade partner, which would replace China. Former Australian PM Abbott, visiting India to discuss the trade agreement, accused China of weaponising trade.

Thus, Australia started cooperation with the United States, Japan and India. In turn, China imposed financial sanctions against Australia. A few days ago, the United States accused China of striking an economic war against Australia.

Against this background, Australian PM Scott Morrison has taken a policy decision to extend trade cooperation with India. Earlier, both nations had discussed the ‘Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement –CECA’. Thus, Tony Abbott is visiting India as a special trade envoy on behalf of PM Scott Morrison. Special envoy Abbott held talks with Indian trade minister Piyush Goyal. Moreover, Abbott has expressed satisfaction over this meeting and soon, both countries will conclude the trade agreement, he asserted. Abbott had warned that India would be a better and credible trading replacement against China.

Furthermore, Tony Abbott fired a salvo of criticism against China this time. Abbott accused China of weaponising trade. Thus, this has disrupted business worth $20 billion for Australia, said Abbott. Hence, he warned that Australia cannot look up to China as a trustworthy trade partner. At the same time, Abbott clarified the contrast between China and India.

India is a democratic country and it operates lawfully. In India, government policy and trade are considered two separate aspects. Besides, India respects the sanctity of the contract, asserted Abbot. He further expressed that China cannot be trusted with such credibility. Thus, India would be a credible choice to manage the supply chain and a perfect replacement against China, cited Tony Abbott.
