Imran Khan gives a deadline of six days to Pakistan’s government to call for fresh elections

Islamabad: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has warned the present government to declare elections in the next six days or face public agitations. Therefore, the government seems to be relieved for the time being from the Independence March organised by Imran Khan. The present government of Pakistan is feeling pressure due to the strength demonstrated by Imran Khan. Hence, the warning issued of intensified agitations if the demands are not met cannot be ignored. Analysts fear that such incidents would lead to anarchy in Pakistan.

However, the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, proved his majority in the parliament and came into power. Imran Khan has called for a fight for true independence in Pakistan as the present government is unacceptable to him. It is claimed that Imran Khan is receiving massive support from the Pakistani youth who are frustrated. Imran Khan was preparing to reach the capital Islamabad on May 25 with his supporters in such a scenario.

Incidents of skirmishes between protestors and the police were reported while the Independence March was entering the capital Islamabad. Ten people were killed in the clash. Many arms were seized from Imran Khan supporters. Hundreds of Imran Khan supporters were detained to bring the situation under control. Some leaders were also arrested to ensure they did not participate in the Independence March. These leaders threatened to still participate in the Independence March. Imran Khan is being criticised for failing to understand the disastrous effect on Pakistan because of his actions.

The country’s economy has hit rock bottom, and funds are just enough to cover imports only for the next few weeks. At the same time, inflation has reached record levels, and the Pakistani Rupee has crashed to a low of 200 Rupees to a US Dollar. Responsible journalists criticise that in such a scenario, Imran Khan is out to divide the country by declaring an agitation and inciting the Pakistani population against the government and the military. Moreover, as per these journalists, if elections are held in June as demanded by Imran Khan, the condition of Pakistan will be worse than Sri Lanka.
