Natural Gas reserves in Germany are depleting rapidly

Berlin – Germany has the biggest natural gas reservoir. However, the natural gas reserves are depleting fast. Thus, the country only has 35% of its natural gas reserve left. Besides, a warlike situation created between Russia and Ukraine, alongside the increase in natural gas rates, are considered the reason for this reduction. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reached Russia on Tuesday.

The official said that the German government is monitoring the situation closely. The official confessed that this is the first time for the stocks to have depleted to such levels in several years.

The German Parliament has instructed the fuel companies to maintain adequate stock of natural gas given the increasing demand in the winter season. The officials studying the impending fuel shortage shared this information while speaking to a US news agency. The German government has not held anyone responsible for such a shortage. But it is claimed that the tension reigning at the Russia-Ukraine border is the cause for this shortage.

Furthermore, Russia is the biggest supplier of natural gas to European countries. This natural gas is supplied through the pipeline passing through the Ukraine border. Besides, a significant chunk of this gas is used by Germany. Taking the enormous natural gas requirement in the country into account, Germany signed the Nord Stream 2 agreement with Russia. But Ukraine has claimed that Russia uses this agreement as a weapon against it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky levelled this allegation during his meeting with German Chancellor Scholz.
