Separatist leader Geelani quits Hurriyat

Srinagar: – Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the separatist leader from Jammu and Kashmir, has resigned from the post of President of Hurriyat Conference. Geelani, the leader of Hurriyat, carrying out separatist activities under instructions from Pakistan, is said to have resigned under pressure from across the border. Pakistan was expecting that Hurriyat will hold violent agitations and carry out a terror attack, following the abrogation of Article 370, and Pakistan would be able to capitalise on them, at the international level. But nothing of that sort happened in Jammu and Kashmir. It is said that therefore, ISI was upset with Geelani. Some analysts are also saying that the resignation of Geelani is also indicative of the beginning of the end for separatists in Kashmir.

Geelani was the President of Hurriyat, the federation of separatist organisations, in Jammu and Kashmir. Geelani was known as the face of separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. On Monday, Geelani tendered his resignation in two sentences through an audio message. Geelani said that he was resigning because of the current scenario and he is in no way connected with the Hurriyat anymore.

SP Vaidya, former Director-General of Jammu and Kashmir police and referred as a tyrant by the terrorists, posted on the social media following the resignation of Geelani. Vaidya has described Geelani as the knight of separatists, instigator of terrorists and an ISI agent. Vaidya also made a remark saying, ‘What is the point of coming to senses after everything is lost?’

As per analysts, the separatist activities in the Kashmir valley have been reined in, and the existence of separatists is being wiped out. Many separatist leaders are languishing in jails under Terror Funding charges. Properties of some of these separatist leaders have been seized in the same matter. Many separatist leaders receive huge funding from Pakistan. These leaders have built vast properties with this funding. Most of the children of these separatists, inciting Kashmiri youth for terrorism and giving stones and guns in the hands of the youth, are comfortably placed abroad. After this revelation, the support received by these separatists has reduced in certain parts, in the last five to six years.

Moreover, it is said that Geelani had to leave Hurriyat as the ISI was unhappy about the Hurriyat’s failure to perpetrate violence in Kashmir, following the abrogation of Article 370 and the amendments to the residence laws.

Meanwhile, Hizbul commander Masood was killed in an action taken by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Police said that with the killing of Masood, the Doda district has been freed of terrorism. Police informed that two other terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba were also killed in the encounter.
