China’s unmanned drone carrier ship set for induction

Beijing: China has announced that its unmanned ‘drone-carrying ship’ is ready for research in the area of the ‘South China Sea’ and to prevent potential threats. The Chinese government and media say that the ship will be used for purely civilian purposes. But this unmanned and drone-equipped ship can be used by China as a military drone-carrying warship against Taiwan, according to international media and analysts.

In 2021, Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, which is related to China’s military, started the production of the unmanned drone carrier ship ‘Zhu Hai Yun’. Last year, in May, the Zhu Hai Yun was launched and its sea trials began. China announced that the ship, which arrived at Zhuhai Gaolan port in China’s Guangdong province last week, is ready for its next deployment.

Moreover, this ship, controlled by remote control, will be used to study the environment of the ocean floor, the Chinese government mouthpiece Global Times reported. China’s mouthpiece and other media are claiming that this is the first time in the world that such an unmanned drone ship has been deployed to study the marine environment. A medium has also said that they can be prevented by getting information about marine disasters.

But although China claims that the said ship is only for marine research, it is suspected that this ship was forged for China’s ‘Type 076’ warship. China’s upcoming Type 076 warship will be used to carry unmanned helicopters. Drones, unmanned boats and submarines can also be launched from the ‘Zhu Hai Yun’ ship. Therefore, international media and analysts claim the Chinese ship will work like a drone-carrying warship.

China has already deployed large-scale naval forces against Taiwan. In the wake of rising tensions with Taiwan, analysts fear that China may also use the ship Zhu Haiyun against Taiwan.
