China supports ceasing action against LeT terrorist

Beijing: China has said that it has blocked the Security Council’s proposal to blacklist Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Sajid Mir considering the rules and procedures. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning cited these technical reasons to justify her country’s decision to stop the crackdown on terrorists. Last month, China also blocked the action of the Security Council against Abdul Rauf Azhar, the second-ranking leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). In June, China put forward the same reason while preventing the action against the notorious terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki of LeT. By this, China has shown that it is not ready to improve relations with India.

China supports ceasing action against LeT terroristA few days ago, India and the US proposed to blacklist Lashkar terrorist Sajid Mir in the Security Council. However, China rejected this proposal citing technical reasons. While explaining it, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China cited the rules and procedures and said that China is a country that strictly follows them. India had indirectly protested against China by saying that some countries are preventing action against terrorists by citing technical reasons. The meeting of the United Nations General Assembly is approaching and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has entered the US for a six-day visit. It is said that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will raise the issue of action against terrorists in meetings with leaders of other countries. Against that background, China’s support for its decision is noteworthy.

Moreover, China protecting Pakistan-backed terrorist organisations and their leaders, who caused bloodshed in India, is not a new issue. Sajid Mir, Abdul Rauf Azhar and Abdul Rehman Makki are the names of the terrorists China has shielded from Security Council action this year. Even before that, China had supported terrorists carrying out attacks in India many times. Pakistan, which is currently stuck in the grey list of ‘Financial Action Task Force-FATF’, is forced to take action against terrorists to get rid of it. Even in this situation, China seems to safeguard terrorist organisations in Pakistan and their leaders from the Security Council.

Due to such absurd policies of China, this country’s relations with India have reached the level of non-improvement and China has been suffering its impact. After the tension between the two countries over the Ladakh LAC, China’s support of Pakistan-based terrorists has become a significant point of tension between the two countries. China is making India aware that China is a permanent member of the Security Council and can use its special right to reject the proposals made by India. Due to this, India’s policy toward China is becoming increasingly strict. In the recently held SCO Summit, the Indian Prime Minister and the Chinese President did not even shake hands as part of diplomatic etiquette.
