China and Japan hold first ‘security dialogue’ in four years

Tokyo: A security dialogue was held between Japan and China on Wednesday in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. For the first time in four years, the two countries are said to have held a bilateral meeting on security issues. During the meeting, Japan is said to have raised the issue of China’s activities in the East China Sea, military exercises with Russia, ‘spy balloons’ and Taiwan. On the other hand, China accused Japan of a Cold War mentality by pointing fingers at Japan’s increasing defence spending.

China and Japan hold first 'security dialogue' in four yearsIn 2019, a security meeting was held between Japan and China in Beijing. After that, the two countries had no ‘security dialogue’ against rising tension because of the Corona pandemic and China’s expansionist activities. However, it is believed that Japan has taken the initiative to reduce the tension, keeping in mind the possibility of a flare-up of conflict in the Pacific due to China. Japan’s Vice Foreign Minister Shigeo Yamada responded that although there are many opportunities to improve relations between Japan and China, there are also issues of concern. Also, China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong blamed Japan for making its defence policy more aggressive.
