New Delhi: The Chinese military has expressed hope that India will appreciate the positive signals sent by China to establish harmony on the China border. The 11th round of talks was recently held between the military officials of both countries to diffuse the tension reigning on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. However, nothing much was achieved in the talks. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is giving a message that it is a positive development for India that the tension in this region does not fester. PLA is trying to show that it has the upper hand in the dispute. But it has been revealed many times that the Indian Army is dominating the LAC in Ladakh.
11th round of talks was held between Indian and Chinese military officials on the 9th of April. During the talks India demanded China withdraw its soldiers from Gogra, Hot Springs and Depsang regions in Ladakh. But the Chinese military officials adopted an adamant stand regarding this. Therefore, the talks could not progress. Thus, both the countries have not published a joint statement after the concerned round of talks. This points to the fact that the talks were not favourable. In this scenario, the PLA published a statement passing remarks. PLA has said that it expects India to welcome the positive messages given by China and resolve the tension on the LAC in Ladakh.
In other words, PLA has presented the propaganda carried on by the Chinese mouthpiece Global Times differently. Global Times has repeatedly been threatening that India is responsible for reducing the LAC tension in Ladakh; otherwise, India will suffer losses. PLA seems to be trying to deliver a similar message. At the same time, PLA has indicated that it will not be withdrawing soldiers from the LAC in Ladakh. India was fully aware that this 11th round of talks held between the military officials from both countries, will also prove futile.
Former military officials and strategic analysts had repeatedly warned that China will not withdraw its soldiers from the sectors near the LAC Ladakh anytime soon and will make all the efforts to pressurise India using this deployment. Against this background, India has made all the preparations on the LAC in Ladakh. China is being made aware in various ways that if there is a misadventure from the Chinese side, India will not hesitate to retaliate in the same language. The leaders and military officials of the country have repeatedly clarified that the LAC in Ladakh is dominated by the Indian military and not the Chinese military.
But using display of aggression and fake campaigns China is trying to create a façade that the Chinese military has an upper hand on the LAC in Ladakh. The Chinese image as a mighty country has taken a severe beating due to the stern stand adopted by India in the dispute and conflict that started in the last year. In the times after that, smaller countries from the Indo-Pacific also have garnered courage to stand against China. These countries also expect Indian cooperation against China.
The Japanese and Australian belief in India, became stronger following the resolve demonstrated by India on the LAC in Ladakh. In this scenario, China does not want to face more humiliation by withdrawing its army from the LAC. Instead, China wants to show the world that it emerged victorious. But it does not want to risk an open enmity with India. Therefore, China withdrew the soldiers from the north and south of the Pangong Lake. But instead of completing the process, China has taken this adamant stand.

But there is nothing achievable for China through these efforts. Last year, China had to suffer major losses during the Galwan Valley conflict. China made all possible efforts to suppress the reports. Over time, China was forced to concede that it lost soldiers in the Galwan Valley conflict. But China tried to show that the number was minimal. Therefore, there is no credibility in the claims and propaganda made by China.
The LAC has not been clearly defined between India and China. Taking advantage of this fact, China portrays a picture that its military is intruding into the Indian territory. But the Indian Army Chief gave a stern reply to the Chinese propaganda, with an assurance that not even an inch of Indian land is under Chinese control.
