93 Taliban terrorists killed in action by Afghan military

Kabul: The Afghan defence forces killed 93 Taliban terrorists in the actions carried out over the last 24 hours. The killed terrorists included three suicide bombers. Therefore, the Afghan military officials are claiming that a major disaster was averted. Taliban carried out 2 suicide attacks to avenge this action of the Afghan military. One Afghan soldier was killed in the attack. Meanwhile, the United States is pressurising Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to initiate a dialogue with the Taliban. But the Afghan government has continued with the actions, saying that the Taliban has not given up violence.

93 Taliban terrorists killed in action by Afghan militaryThe Afghan military executed a major action against the Taliban in the Kandahar, Zabul and Faryab provinces on Wednesday and Thursday successively. The Afghan military and air force helicopters killed 31 Taliban terrorists in Arghandab and Zerai districts in Kandahar, and 35 terrorists were killed in actions in the Mizan and Shahr-e-Safa districts of Zabul province. 10 Taliban terrorists were injured in action. The Afghan military seized a huge haul of weapons and vehicles.

After the action, the Afghan military announced that the Mizan district was free from the Taliban. Simultaneously, the landmines planted by the Taliban in the district to target the civilians and the soldiers have also been defused. Encounter in the Faryab province between the Taliban and the Afghan military continued for two days. Three suicide attackers of the Taliban were planning a major attack in the same province. But 12 Taliban terrorists were killed in action taken by the Afghan helicopters. These included the 3 suicide bombers.

It is not clear if the Afghan military got assistance from either the US or NATO military. Infuriated by this action, the Taliban launched two suicide attacks near the Afghan special forces bases in the Maidan Wardak province on Friday. Thereafter, there was an exchange of fire between the Taliban and Afghan special forces and one soldier was killed in the encounter.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had warned, ‘If the Afghan government does not open a dialogue with the Taliban before the 1st of May, the United States will withdraw all its forces on that date, and thereafter, Taliban will take over Afghanistan.’ Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also is pressurising the Ghani government to accept the proposal.

But since the last month, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has been accusing that the terrorist activities of the Taliban have increased. Taliban has started targeting the women from media and education sectors. It is being reported that some woman journalists have tendered their resignations. The Afghan population is expressing fears that if the United States brought the Taliban back into power, there would be Talibanisation of Afghanistan, once again.
