US to cooperate with Asian countries on intelligence against China, US officials say

Washington – Currently, the United States cooperates bilaterally and trilaterally with Asian countries to counter China’s threat of cyberattacks and spying apparatus installed at various places. Also, it has been setting up a network of spy cooperation in China’s neighbouring countries to corner China. The US officials informed that the Five Eyes group, formed earlier by the US along with the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, would prove helpful in cooperating with the Asian countries. The US intelligence agencies also warn that China’s ongoing activities in East Asia challenge the US. Against this background, the US establishing such cooperation with Asian countries draws much attention.

Asian countriesMoreover, the US intelligence agencies had warned in their report that China was taking rapid steps to eliminate the US influence in East Asia. The report also said that under no circumstances was China trying to end the ongoing disputes over the South China Sea with the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei and Malaysia. The US intelligence agencies have also highlighted that, on the contrary, China has claimed sovereignty over the 0.125 million square miles of maritime area and built artificial islands and military bases there.

Besides, China is becoming increasingly aggressive regarding Taiwan and challenging Japan’s Okinawa Islands maritime security. Meanwhile, under the Belt and Road Initiative, China is increasing cooperation with small island countries of the Indo-Pacific region. Thus, the US intelligence agencies reminded these small island countries that China was trapping them in a debt trap. Against this background, the US official shared on the condition of anonymity that the United States is engaged in developing intelligence cooperation with Asian countries to corner China.

Furthermore, the US is now establishing bilateral and trilateral cooperation with Japan, Vietnam and the Philippines under this. It will exchange confidential information through this cooperation with allies and partner countries. Ahead of this, there were claims that the US would establish this cooperation by going beyond the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) cooperation with India, Japan and Australia. Earlier, Japan and South Korea had shown eagerness to join the Quad. However, the US official said that the United States cooperates independently with these two countries.

Earlier, China had objected to the Five Eyes intelligence alliance of the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. It would be helpful to collaborate with Asian countries for these Five Eyes. The US will use the information received by Asian countries with the help of Five Eyes to destroy China’s sources of espionage. Simultaneously, the US has also planned to use this cooperation to eliminate the threat of China’s increasing cyberattacks.

Meanwhile, China had already objected to the US interference in the Indo-Pacific region. Besides, China had also reprimanded the Quad, AUKUS and Five Eyes groups.
