Former US President Donald Trump had adopted the ‘America First’ policy and taken an aggressive stand against China, Iran, European countries and other allies. Simultaneously, the closeness between President Trump and Russian President also became of point of discussion. Opponents and analysts had accused that the image of the United States has been tarnished due to the decisions take by President Trump to withdraw from the World Health Organisation, Paris Climate Treaty and the Trans-Pacific Partnership and also stopping the financial contribution in NATO and United Nations.

Against this background, President Biden had promised to regain the United States’ position, on the international level, during his election campaign. On Thursday, the visit to the State department and announcement of the foreign policy outline are said to be a part of the movements to fulfil the promise. Saying that the United States cannot afford to abstain from the International stage, Biden assured that the United States would repair all the fronts to regain the status on the international level. At this time, he also indicated that the US foreign policies would be China and Russia centric.

President Biden warned ‘The United States will reconcile with the international community to counter challenges, not from the past, but the current and future challenges. A country like Russia is trying to destroy our democracy. China’s ambitions, who is challenging the United States, are becoming stronger, and the influence of monopolistic rule is increasing. The US leadership will have to confront this.’ Criticising the soft stand adopted by former President Trump, Biden said that the United States will not surrender in front of Russia. Biden also demanded that Russia should immediately release Pro-democracy leader Alexi Navalny from the prison.

The US President warned that China is the biggest adversary of the United States. Moreover, the challenges posed by China will face direct retaliation. Aggressive steps will be taken to stop the economic exploitation, bullying of other countries, and the attacks on human rights, intellectual property, and China’s global systems. At the same time, there is also a possibility of seeking cooperation from China to protect US interests, said Biden.

Absence of Iran becomes conspicuous, while the US President is giving the outline of the foreign policy targeting Russia and China. Biden announced that the decision to recall military from Germany also was being revoked. At the same time, he announced that the gates of the United States are once again being opened for the immigrants and refugees and he also announced an increase in the number to 125,000. Trump had reduced this number to 15,000.

Russia expressed strong resentment over the statements made by President Biden. Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned the United States, saying that baseless allegations have been levelled against Russia. This is very unfortunate. The language of decisive warnings against the US is unacceptable. Russia will ignore such lectures.
