UN’s failure has raised the importance of G-20: PM Narendra ModiPrime Minister Modi received a warm welcome in the capital of Indonesia, Bali. During this conference, the Prime Minister met US President Biden, French President Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. On the occasion of this conference, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet with around 20 leaders. In the context of ongoing geopolitical upheavals, the Prime Minister’s participation in the G-20 is significant. Especially next year, G-20 will be held in India, increasing the importance of the Indian role. Thus, while underlining the importance of the G-20, the Prime Minister criticized the United Nations for its failure to take lead in facing the world’s challenges.

The Prime Minister sternly targeted the United Nations. He said that Global supply chains had been disrupted by climate change, the Corona pandemic and the Ukraine conflict. This has worsened the situation of the already suffering masses. In the face of such grave challenges, the United Nations has failed to lead the world in confronting them. We have no reason to hesitate in admitting this. All our efforts to reform the United Nations have also failed. The prime minister pointed out that the relevance of the G-20 has increased due to this failure and that the world is looking up to the G-20 for leadership.

After the end of Corona, the responsibility of creating a new world order has fallen on all of us. We are responsible for creating a sense of peace, goodwill and security worldwide. The Prime Minister expressed his belief that the message of peace can be conveyed through unity at the G-20 to be held in India, the holy land of Buddha and Gandhi, next year. The Prime Minister noted that India’s economy is progressing the fastest in the world. Also, the Prime Minister clearly stated that India’s energy security is very important for the world’s economic development.

Along with this, by raising the issue of shortage of fertilizers, Prime Minister Modi warned that the shortage of fertilizers today will become the shortage of food in the future. In such a situation, the Prime Minister asserted that everyone’s concurrence is necessary to stabilize the supply of fertilizer and food grains. The Prime Minister pointed out that this situation has arisen due to the Ukraine conflict and it has become necessary to stop this battle. The Prime Minister has once again called for a ceasefire and resolution of the issue through diplomatic negotiations. After the Second World War, the international leaders of that time made serious efforts to establish peace. The Prime Minister also pointed out that the same responsibility has fallen on the leadership of the present time.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi’s mention of the failure of the United Nations is significant. India has been continuously demanding the expansion of the Security Council by reforming the United Nations. The United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and China are five permanent members of the Security Council. However, the Security Council has not expanded in the last several decades. Being the world’s largest democracy and the fifth largest economy, it is natural for India to get a permanent membership in the Security Council. But the United Nations is not eager to make the necessary reforms. Against that backdrop, Prime Minister Modi has pointed his finger at the failure of the United Nations and has indicated that India will perform more effectively as the chairman of the G-20.
