As per the statistic released by the United Nations, 4.7 million Afghanis could face hunger in the year 2022. Taking cognisance of this, India immediately announced to supply 50,000 tonnes of wheat and other humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. Pakistan, which had taken an evasive stance to allow the passage of this aid to Afghanistan through the country, was forced to enable the passage to yield to the Taliban pressure.

Moreover, India’s decision to provide humanitarian assistance is being praised internationally. Besides, the population of Afghanistan is expressing its gratitude towards India. Earlier as well, India had supplied medicines and Corona vaccines to Afghanistan. Taliban had also welcomed these supplies. The Taliban spokesman has thanked India for the supply of 50,000 tonnes of wheat and has said that the Taliban is grateful to India for this gesture.

The Taliban spokesman Shaheen expressed satisfaction that Pakistan has opened the pathway for passage of this wheat to Afghanistan. But Pakistan is grappled with the fear that this supply of aid will increase the Indian influence in Afghanistan. Currently, tension is reigning between Pakistan and Afghanistan over the Durand Line, and Pakistani soldiers have been killed in the encounters in the area. This has added to the Pakistani worries. Pakistani analysts have started saying that cooperation will be established between the Taliban and India, which will pose a fresh challenge in front of Pakistan.
