Taliban loot the food aid sent by Australia for the Afghans

Canberra/Kabul: – International organizations have warned that the Afghan people are facing a food crisis of starvation. Besides, the children in this country may die of malnutrition. Hence, Australia and some other countries are providing food stocks to Afghans through the United Nations. But the shocking news is that the aid is not reaching the needy, but the Taliban militants are looting it. According to a leading Australian newspaper, this is not the first time that Taliban militants have looted international aid.

Three months ago, after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the United States, the European Union and other countries stopped providing aid to Afghanistan. A handful of countries, including Pakistan, China, Turkey and Qatar, are in contact with the Taliban regime and are providing all kinds of assistance. But this has not solved the problems of the ordinary Afghan population. On the other hand, the United Nations and its allies are concerned that the plight of the Afghan people has worsened due to the international community’s withholding of aid to Afghanistan.

More than 25 million Afghans are facing starvation. If aid does not reach Afghans in the coming weeks, the country’s children will be the first victims of malnutrition, the World Food Program (WFP) has warned. ‘Afghanistan is on the brink of a disaster and if the international community does not respond, there will be a catastrophe,’ said David Beasley, WFP’s director.

Last month, Australia shipped 3.7 tonnes of flour to Afghanistan in response to a call from the international community. It was to be supplied to locals in the northern province of Badakhshan, Afghanistan. But the Taliban militants looted the aid at gunpoint and deprived the Afghan people. The Australian newspaper reported that the Taliban terrorists decamped with humanitarian aid. Shelley Thakral, a WFP spokeswoman in Afghanistan, acknowledged that the Taliban had carried out the robbery.

This is not the first time Taliban militants have looted international aid in Badakhshan province. In the last three months, the Taliban has squandered international aid. But the Australian newspaper criticized the incident in Badakhshan as a limit of shamelessness. The incident took place in Badakhshan and details of the incident reached the Taliban leadership. The Taliban militants then promised to return some of the looted flour. It was not immediately clear if the stockpile reached Afghan needs. A month and a half ago, India announced that it would send 50,000 metric tonnes of food and medical aid to Afghans. For this, India had appealed to Pakistan to provide a route through the Attari border to Afghanistan. It took a month and a half for the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan to decide. At the same time, it was reported that certain conditions had been laid down to allow the passage of humanitarian assistance from India. After India criticized Pakistan’s terms, Pakistan withdrew some of them. But Pakistan is not ready to enable Indian trucks to transport 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan.
