Stockholm: Sweden, which has been welcoming refugees for many decades, has taken up a special campaign to halt the influx of refugees. The name of this campaign is ‘Don’t Come Here Campaign’, and the government has taken the initiative for it. As part of the campaign, Sweden’s Minister of Migration, Maria Malmer Stenergard, has started giving interviews in various European media, and articles have also been published. More than 700,000 refugees have infiltrated Sweden in the last 14 years, and it recently emerged that the percentage of foreign-born citizens in the country’s population was increasing.

The Swedish public, who initially welcomed it, later opposed the influx. In some Swedish cities, criminal gangs had come to rise from the refugee camps. These gangs caused harassment to the locals. The Sweden Democrats had consistently taken an aggressive stance and strongly criticised the government’s policies regarding refugee issues. Moreover, analysts claim that its results were reflected in the election results.
