PM Modi signed 6 MoUs with Nepal during his visit  

Lumbini: – Sources informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal began on Monday and he held bilateral talks with Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. Following the talks, six agreements were signed between India and Nepal. This includes the Arun 4 hydroelectric project built in Nepal by India. Prime Minister Modi visited the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini. According to the Indian foreign ministry, the foundation stone laying ceremony of the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage was also held.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Nepal began with a visit to the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. After the visit, the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal held bilateral talks. Following the talks, six MoUs were signed between the two countries. These include agreements in the cultural, educational and energy sectors. According to the agreement, India will start various initiatives at Lumbini Buddhist University, Kathmandu University and Tribhuvan University in Nepal. This includes the ‘Joint Degree Program’ launched by IIT Madras.  

Apart from this, India is constructing a hydropower project in Nepal at the cost of around Rs 5,000 crore and it was informed that an agreement had been signed in this regard. Named ‘Arun 4’, the Sutlej Hydropower Corporation of India will set up a 490 MW power plant in Nepal. Nepal Electricity Authority will be participating in the event from the Nepalese side. India has significantly contributed in building energy and other infrastructure in Nepal in the past and this project is an important stage in the process.  

This is the fifth visit of Indian Prime Minister Modi to Nepal in the last eight years. Modi has arrived in Nepal at the invitation of Nepal’s Prime Minister Deuba. Nepal, which has come under Chinese influence in the last few years, had given secondary importance to its relations with India. However, after the change of government in Nepal, the situation has changed and Prime Minister Deuba’s government has once again started giving priority to relations with India. Last month, Prime Minister Deuba visited India.
