Many possibilities are being predicted regarding the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to India. Some people claim that the Russian Foreign Minister will present the Ukraine conflict situation and the policy regarding the peace talks with Ukraine. Russia, trapped under the burden of harsh sanctions imposed by the United States and other countries, is expecting India to help in saving the Russian economy. Talks are that the Russian Foreign Minister is coming to India for this purpose.

While the United States has imposed sanctions on the USD use by Russia, it is being said that Lavrov will propose executing the transactions in Ruble and Rupee, the currencies of Russia and India, respectively. But Fuel Minister Rameshwar Teli indicated that India would not be conducting the oil transactions with Russia in INR. In the written reply to a question asked in the Rajya Sabha, Rameshwar Teli has said that India is not considering dealing with Russia in INR for the oil transactions.

Teli clarified that the Indian companies had received no such proposal from Russia. The Indian Oil Corporation purchased 3 million barrels of oil from Russia at concessional rates. Reports of Hindustan Petroleum corporation purchasing 2 million barrels of oil from Russia also are being received. Therefore, India is exposed to increasing its oil purchase from Russia. This increases the significance of the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to India.
