Propaganda is a threat to country's security - Prime Minister Narendra ModiPrime Minister Modi was addressing a seminar ‘Swavlamban 2022’ jointly organised by the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM). The country is becoming self-sufficient on the defence and weapons front. In the last four to five years, defence imports have come down by 21 per cent. Now India, the largest importer of arms and defence materials, is becoming a major exporter of defence materials. Last year, the country exported defence equipment worth 13,000 crore rupees. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that private sector companies made more than 70 per cent of these exports. The Prime Minister pointed out that in the last eight years, the government, in addition to increasing its expenditure on defence, has created the environment required to produce defence materials domestically.

As the country progresses in this way, the scope of possible threats to the country is increasing. These days, the country’s security is not only threatened by land, sea and air. There are numerous challenges facing the country’s security on many fronts. While India is building its independent position internationally, there are continuous attacks against India through false information and propaganda. The Prime Minister pointed out that propaganda has become a significant weapon against the country. The plans of forces inside and outside the country to harm India should be thwarted. Because national security is not only a matter limited to the country’s borders. The scope of national security has increased. It is imperative to make every citizen aware of this.

Some countries turned their crisis into opportunities in the post-World War II period. These countries later emerged as arms exporters. Along the same lines, the Prime Minister claimed that India also turned the Coronavirus pandemic crisis into an opportunity, boosted the economy, and made strides in science.
