PM orders ministries to employ 1 million candidates in the next 18 months

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instructed the ministries to employ 1 million candidates over the next one and a half years. The Prime Minister has asked the ministries to submit their plan in this matter and instructed to initiate a massive campaign for the employment of 1 million candidates in the next 18 months. The Prime Minister’s office shared this information on social media. Therefore, there is an enthusiastic atmosphere among the hopefuls for a government job.

In reality, this number should have been 4.078 million. The situation has arisen given the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the employment process. Against this background, Prime Minister has issued orders to fulfil the requirement of 1 million employees in various departments in the next 18 months. The Prime Minister has instructed the ministries to make this a priority.

90% of the civilian employees of the Union government are in the railways, Security (Civil), home department, Post and revenue departments. The number of civilian employees of the Union government is nearly 3.133 million and these do not include the employees in the union territories. Out of these 40.55% of employees are with the Indian Railways. Whereas the home department accounts for 30.5% of Union government employees. 12.31% of employees are in the Security (Civil) department, 5.66% are in the Postal department and there are 3.26% in the revenue department. The other government ministries account for 7.72% of employees.

The remuneration paid to these employees for 2019-20 was Rupees 2 trillion 257 billion 447 million. In the previous year (2018-19), this expense was Rupees 2 trillion 89 billion 601.7 million. There is a shortage of nearly 1,016 million employees in various departments created due to hampering of the recruitment process given the Coronavirus pandemic. This comes as a consolation for the youth in the country hoping to secure government jobs.
