Japan to adopt a tough stand for Senkaku’s security – Japan warns China

Tokyo / Beijing: Japan issued a clear warning to China, which claimed the Senkaku islands and escalated tensions by sending a destroyer to the area. ‘The Senkaku Islands have historically been an integral part of Japan. International regulations also support Japan’s claim. Nevertheless, Japan can take a calm but tough stance on the security of its territory, maritime or airspace,’ Japan warned. Japan’s response came after a Chinese destroyer patrolled the border near Senkaku.

Japan to adopt a tough stand for Senkaku's security - Japan warns ChinaAccording to the Japanese Ministry of Defense, the Chinese destroyer travelled near Senkaku’s maritime area on Monday morning. The Chinese destroyer patrolled the area for at least six minutes. After this, Japan dispatched its patrol ship and forced the Chinese destroyer to withdraw from the maritime area. Japan’s government took serious note of the incident and slammed China. Japan also said that China should ensure such incidents do not happen again.

Moreover, Japanese government spokesman Seiji Kihara reminded China that Japan has a right to Senkaku, both historically and per international law. Kihara warned that China’s actions near Japan’s maritime border would not be tolerated. Kihara said that if such a thing happens again near the border of Japan, Japan will respond to the action calmly but sternly. After that, China threatened Japan.

Furthermore, China said that Japan has no right to make irresponsible statements regarding Diaoyu. The islands referred to as Senkaku by the Japanese are called Diaoyu by China. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian claimed that Diaoyu Islands is Chinese territory and the movement of Chinese warships in the region is perfectly legal. Chinese warships had patrolled in this region for more than 60 hours last month.

Meanwhile, with the US focus on the Ukraine conflict, confident China has stepped up its offensive against its neighbours. Like Japan, China has adopted a similar aggressive policy towards Taiwan.
