Iranian navy begins military exercise in the Caspian Sea

Tehran – Iran’s navy has started an extensive military exercise in the Caspian Sea. Iran has announced that it is conducting the exercise to secure its northern maritime border and maritime traffic. Last week, Iran’s neighbour Azerbaijan held a naval activity in the region. Since then, Iran has also been seen holding exercises. According to Iranian media reports, the practice of Sustainable Security 1400 exercises has begun. The activity has been carried out in the 77,000-kilometre area of Iran in the Caspian Sea. The exercise, which started on Wednesday, involved Iranian naval destroyers, planes, helicopters and drones. According to the Iranian media, marines and commandos of the Iranian navy will conduct several different exercises during the practice.

According to the Iranian media, the exercise is aimed at protecting maritime traffic as well as the interests in the Caspian Sea in the north of Iran. In the last few years, Iran has conducted various military exercises in the Caspian in the north and the Persian Gulf in the south. The Iranian media says that the practice is a part of that.

However, it has been observed that the Iranian navy conducted the exercise after Azerbaijan’s war exercises. Azerbaijan held a similar practice in the Caspian Sea last week. Although Iran and Azerbaijan are neighbours, the two countries have been at loggerheads for the past few days. While Pakistan sided with Azerbaijan in the conflict with Armenia, Iran had avoided taking a certain stand. This led to reports that Azerbaijan was disappointed with Iran.
