Indian stance on the Ukraine war disappointing for the United States: US

Washington: US Senator Mark Warner said that the neutral stance adopted by US allies like India and Israel regarding the Ukraine conflict is a disappointment for the United States. Warner said that this is not an issue to sit

on the fence and adopt a neutral stand, but one must choose between good and bad. Warner further said that both these democratic countries had disappointed him. Whereas Mira Rapp-Hooper, a senior official in the White House, said it was expected, the Indian stance on the Ukraine conflict issue is dissatisfactory.

The United States pressurises India to stand against Russia on the Ukraine conflict issue. US President Biden had criticised India. India had said that it would not take sides in this conflict and declared that its policy was to sponsor peace. The United States is expressing its displeasure regarding the stand in different ways and trying to increase pressure on India. Senator Mark Warner, believed to be an India supporter, is the head of the Select Committee on Intelligence of the US Senate. At the same time, he functions as the vice president of the India Caucus of the United States. He has said that the Indian stand regarding the Ukraine conflict is disappointing. Warned said that democratic countries like India and Israel have been sitting on the fence and not taking sides in the Ukraine conflict, which is unacceptable. Warner criticised that it is incorrect to be neutral when the choice has to be made between good and bad. Whereas Mira Rapp-Hooper, director for Indo-Pacific in the National Security Council, claimed that it is not unexpected, although the Indian stand is unsatisfactory. Rapp-Hooper said that taking into account that India has historically been an ally of Russia, the stand adopted by India cannot be said to be unexpected.

Rapp-Hooper pointed out that while Indian relations with China are strained, India gives more importance to its relations with Russia. At the same time, Rapp-Hooper pointed out that India is trying to reduce its dependence on Russia for weapons and defence equipment fronts.

Therefore, Rapp-Hooper has said that the United States should understand the Indian side and prepare to present newer options in front of India.
