Indian Navy to buy more than 200 BrahMos missiles

BrahMos missilesNew Delhi – Indian Navy has prepared to purchase 200 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. These missiles will be deployed on frontline warships of the Indian Navy. A preliminary proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Defence, and a decision is soon expected. As China’s aggressive activities in the Indian Ocean region continue to grow, this purchase of BrahMos for the Navy has been significant. This signals that the pace of weapons production at the domestic level will increase further.

Moreover, DRDO and Russia’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise have jointly developed the BrahMos missile. In the last few years, the strike range of this missile has increased from 290 km to 400 km. The BrahMos missile also has the capability to dodge advanced air defence systems around the world. Hence, some countries had been interested in purchasing this missile. Even a powerful country like China was restless because India deployed BrahMos missiles on LAC. In such a situation, the Indian Navy has started moving to include the BrahMos missile in its fleet and has demanded a purchase of 200 BrahMos missiles. A Defence Ministry official said the proposal was in the preliminary stage, and the Ministry of Defence is expected to approve the proposal soon.

Furthermore, the naval version of BrahMos has a strike range of as much as 350 to 400 km. Soon its scope is said to be increased to 800 km. This will greatly increase the strike capability of the Navy. This will enable Indian warships and destroyers to attack the enemy from a distance with precision and very effectively. The use of indigenous content and other systems was increased in developing the new version of BrahMos. Defence-related industries in the country hugely benefit from this.

Also, BrahMos can play an important role in India’s defence exports in the future. In addition, the Philippines has demanded BrahMos from India. There were reports that Philippine Navy units were currently undergoing BrahMos training in India, and some more units of the Philippine Navy will be in India to undergo training in the future. Moreover, Vietnam has also shown interest in purchasing BrahMos.

Meanwhile, using an upgraded modular launcher, the BrahMos supersonic missile was test-fired from the warship INS Kolkata a few days ago.
