Bali: At a time when geo-political tensions, economic slowdown, food and fuel prices and the ill effects of the Coronavirus pandemic are coming to the fore, India is getting the presidency of the G20. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that this presidency of India would be inclusive, ambitious, decisive and proactive in such challenging times. Prime Minister Modi was addressing the closing ceremony of the G20 summit held in Bali, Indonesia.

India will officially become the president of this influential organization from December 1. Against that backdrop, Prime Minister Modi precisely outlined India’s position on the organization. The Prime Minister said that the world is looking at the G20 with great hope at a time when there are tough challenges before the world. At the same time, the Prime Minister added that the G20’s policies during India’s presidency would be Asia-centric. The Prime Minister has also indicated that the G20 will make special efforts to address the issues and problems of developing countries.

Hosting the G20 is a matter of pride for every Indian. The various conference sessions to be held in India next year will be held in different cities of the country. The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that everyone aware of India’s diversity and cultural richness will participate enthusiastically in this conference in India, the mother of democracy. Meanwhile, it is believed that the G20 presidency of India will further elevate India’s international standing.

India can further strengthen its claim to the UN Security Council by effectively using the presidency of an association of 20 economically influential countries worldwide. Indications of this are beginning to emerge and India’s leadership has also taken steps in this direction.

Meanwhile, at the summit in Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and leaders of Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Australia and South Korea. During the summit, Prime Minister Modi also met Chinese President Xi Jinping. But apart from a formal handshake, there was no special discussion between the two countries. It was reported that President Xi Jinping had requested a meeting with Prime Minister Modi. But it is claimed that the meeting could not happen due to his busy schedule.
