New Delhi: Preparations for the ‘G-20 conference to be held in India next year have started in a big way and India has decided its priorities for this. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured that India would act as the voice of small and medium-income countries at this conference. Finance Minister Sitharaman claimed that India would suggest different ways and options at this conference to provide financial assistance to countries belonging to the small and medium-income groups. Along with this, Sitharaman has warned that reforms are essential in the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the United Nations to achieve the ‘Sustainable Development Goal’ (SDG) announced by the United Nations.

G-20 is known as the organization of advanced countries of the world. However, it is constantly criticized that poor countries’ problems are considered only an exception. Claims are made globally that rich countries do not think of poor countries beyond their vested interests. Developing countries and poor and underdeveloped countries in Africa and Asia also have this same complaint. But Nirmala Sitharaman clearly indicated that the G-20 conference being held in India next year would be different.

India’s position in this regard is unequivocal. Sitharaman claimed that India would be the voice of emerging economies and small and medium-income countries and present their problems in the G20. The finance minister also said that India would suggest different ways and options provide financial assistance to these countries. The United Nations announced the ‘Sustainable Development Goal’ (SDG) in the 2015 General Assembly. A deadline of 2030 was set to achieve this goal keeping the objective of world peace and prosperity in mind. The Finance Minister of India pointed out that a comprehensive policy has to be adopted for the development of all countries if this goal is to be achieved.

Meanwhile, Sitharaman said that regulation of cryptocurrencies would also be a key issue at the G20 summit in India. No single country can control cryptocurrency. Saying that the whole world’s support is necessary for this, Sitharaman informed that this would be the highest priority for India.
