India's High Commission gave an earful to China in Sri LankaA few days ago, a ship named ‘Yuan Wang 5’ of the Chinese Navy arrived at Hambantota port in Sri Lanka. China claimed that the vessel was being used for research. But in reality, this ship can capture sensitive information related to espionage and security. Hence, there were claims that the ship’s stay at Hambantota port could endanger the bases of the defence forces in the south of India and the launch centre of ISRO. India raised this matter before Sri Lanka, and then Sri Lanka postponed the visit of the said ship.

After some time, Sri Lanka allowed ‘Yuan Wang 5’ to come to Hambantota port. But considering India’s security concerns, Sri Lanka had imposed certain restrictions on the said vessel. Due to this, it had become difficult for this Chinese ship to go outside the rules and make any aggression. This is why China is spewing fire against India. China’s ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, accused some countries of putting pressure on Sri Lanka by citing security concerns without evidence.

Also, the Chinese ambassador added that Sri Lanka is a sovereign country, and this country has the right to take its own decisions. He has also blamed that there is an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka. The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka has reacted to this and has given China an understanding in strict terms. The High Commission of India has said that the remarks of the Chinese ambassador are a breach of diplomatic etiquette and exposes their recklessness or the country’s behaviour. Sri Lanka needs help, not unnecessary pressure or controversy; India’s High Commission reprimanded China.

Meanwhile, China’s loans at high-interest rates are primarily responsible for Sri Lanka’s financial crisis. Sri Lanka’s progress has been stunted due to being caught in the Chinese debt trap, and today the country is in chaos. Taking advantage of this, China again struggles to establish its dominance over Sri Lanka. But India has a natural influence on Sri Lanka, and currently, the atmosphere in Sri Lanka is heated against China. At the same time, the Sri Lankan people and government also have continuously thanked India for the assistance provided by India during the crisis. China seems restless by this and accuses India of interfering in Sri Lanka. China wants to use Sri Lanka as a pawn against India, India’s former Deputy National Advisor has alleged.
