India’s Finance Minister warns officials, asks them to be on high alert against smuggling of drugs

New Delhi: India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, said that smuggling gold hurts the economy. However, illicit drug trafficking will hurt the future generation. The finance minister urged the customs officials to be vigilant and suggested using technology tools to prevent drug trafficking.

India’s Finance Minister warns officials, asks them to be on high alert against smuggling of drugsTill November this year, 3017 kg of heroin, 2267 kg of hashish, 725 kg of ATS and 122 kg of cocaine have been seized in the country. It makes evident that drug smuggling has increased tremendously, and Finance Minister Sitharaman demanded strict action against this.

The finance minister appealed to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs-CBIC to prepare a strategic plan for the next 25 years against drug trafficking, which can be shared and recommended for other countries.

CBIC should take this action by using the combination of Artificial Intelligence, Darknet, Web3 and Metaverse. Sitharaman said that the CBIC should also consider what measures should be taken against drug users if they engage in cryptocurrency transactions.
