This medicine, 2-Deoxy-D-glucose against Coronavirus, has been developed from the medicines used against Tumour and Cancer cells. The Drug Controller General of India allowed emergency use of this medicine on 8th May. All three trials of the 2-DG showed that the Corona patients recover faster with this and the patients’ dependence on external Oxygen is considerably reduced.

Coronavirus patients were treated with medicines like Hydroxychloroquine, Remdesivir, and Ivermectin used in other epidemics. The milder versions of Coronavirus infection were treated with medicines developed for treatment. But now, this special medicine 2DG is available for patients requiring hospital admission and dropping Oxygen levels.

The medicine is in powder form and has to be dissolved in water and consumed as per the doctor’s advice. The cost of the medicine is ₹500 to ₹600 per packet. The medicine is being manufactured at Dr Reddy’s Laboratory.
